My first company was Devise Design, then later Kapps Apps. Funny anecdote - I initially registered 'Appler' which represented the verb of creating apps and is obviously most of my surname. When submitting my first app to Apple's App Store, they rejected it and demanded I change my company name, with a threat of litigation. Ironic that 4 years later, they'd hire me.

Kapps Apps's 'yourMyki' started as an app for users to vent and report the constantly broken top up machines around town for Melbourne's much maligned public transport system. It evolved to allow commuters to report threats and have others see where danger is in real time. The main function in the end was being able to top up on your mobile after we scraped and mobilised their website. It grew organically to >15,000 users via word of mouth. I had to retire it after I moved to London and let it stagnate - regretfully.

A friend of my old man's trademarked Bell's Beach and I created a brand and some t-shirts for him. The logo ended up on his backpack/luggage line and years later I spotted people wearing the bag in London's Coventry Garden, and all the way over in Nepal at the airport.

A former colleague at Ericsson - now mate - broke out on his own to create a successful business.
